Those of you who are on the older side, where did you guys hide your porn material?

Also were your earlier experiences better than they are now? One guy told me once that the internet sort of took away the thrill of finding and hiding porn, it made it too easy.

Didn't have the Internet, that's true, but there were Jazz mags 'rented' from an enterprising guy at school, second hand mags on a market stall, and mags dumped in hedgerows. To this day, when I see paper in a hedgerow I look to see if it's porn. It's usually junk mail!

Plus this was the early days of household VCRs - betamax and VHS. There was a huge market for copies of copies of porn films, and that was incredibly popular amongst my mates.

You might ask, well you were underage, how were you able to get these things? People weren't that bothered about rules around age then. Lads will be lads and it wasn't harming anyone.

As discussed in the Vintage thread yesterday my Dad had a collection of 'muscle' magazines I would borrow - and be careful to return to their allotted place!

When married, I had a locked file drawer in my den, where I stashed VHS tapes, Penthouse Forums, sex books, xxx magazines. Often, I would have a moment of regret after ejaculation, and would put the most graphic in a paper bag and take them to a bin away from the house. In a few hours, I regretted the disposal, and would start over again in my collection when traveling.

No regrets on having the internet. Buying magazines was expensive and a bit sordid. Over my lifetime, porn changed from playing cards, to magazines, to 8 mm, to VHS, to CDs, to computers, to smart phones. Much easier now.

The first magazine I got (being passed around at school, I intercepted it) I kept inside the ripped back of an armchair in the corner of my room. Later I had a small cheap suitcase , until it bulged so much it split. These days I have a larger locked suitcase, but the porn and items inside is mostly sentimental.

The attitudes in porn (and in me perhaps) have changed since those days of course, but of course we can still get last century's porn online too.

Buying or finding mags was thrilling at the time, but I don't find I miss it.

I found my dad's stash of playboy mags in the back of his closet. I eventually hid mine in the basement above a ceiling tile. When I fist got married, i had a locking briefcase , that i had a few in at all times. I don't miss those days, so much easier on the internet.

Before the net you could find loads of discarded magazines.I haven't found one in over 20 years now.I also bought them in a second hand(I know) book shop.I always liked to find spunk stained magazines,I could see what others wanked over and usually joined them.With VHS tapes I got great videos,I still have them but you get them all now.before marriage I kept my pile under the bed.she knew,but married I kept them in the top of the wardrobe.it was hard being a wanker before the internet.

My Dad was my first 'source' of magazines and pirate videos. Also a second hand shop in town had a selection of used magazines and he didn't care who he sold them to. As @magazine2 said, spunk stained showed you what others liked, both from the second hand shop Dad's collection.

I was born in 1967 so, like many men my age, porn discovery and stroking was almost like a quest.

My dad worked on the railroad and would be gone days at a time. I think I was about 10-11 at the time. He had this large metal suitcase he kept in the basement to carry his work clothes, tools, food, and other things for work. I was curious one day to see what was in it and started rummaging through it. Buried under everything were a few magazines so I had to look at them. The first one I saw was the December 1976 issue of Playboy magazine and, although somewhat tame by today's standards, it really blew my mind. I sat in the basement looking at the pictures just amazed at what I was seeing. I'd heard a bit about sex and masturbation but to actually see a naked woman and start to get those "feelings" was more than I could have imagined. I never forgot that magazine and found a digital copy a few years ago. It definitely brings back memories!

I would sneak glances when I could but just a couple of years later I started helping my brother in law at a gas station he managed. He had a box full of magazines and I managed to sneak a couple of them home with me. She asked me my name and I whispered it to her then she responded with "How old are you?" I immediately hung up, frightened that I was busted. Then I wondered what would happen when my parents saw that number on the phone bill. I was never questioned about it so I don't know if they didn't see it, or maybe my mom blamed my dad, or what may have happened.

When I was 18 I ended up moving out on my own and there was an adult bookstore near me. The first time there was pretty awkward but I bought a few magazines and headed home. I went there a number of times and sometimes they'd have packaged specials. They'd have a few magazines wrapped together in cellophane at a reduced price so you could get different styles of magazines at one time at a lower price than buying them individually. One combo I spotted had a couple of magazines and a video. But the video was, and this will make some of you younger guys scratch your head, a reel to reel video. I didn't have a projector for it, but had to have that video so I bought it. I think I eventually borrowed on from someone but that video was just revolutionary to me. Eventually video stores started popping up and some of them had adult sections so those opened a new door to masturbation.

When the internet was becoming popular, AOL was everyone's go-to for getting online. I was married by then and my wife was a bit freaky so we would go online to some of the "adult" AOL chat rooms and people would say they were creating a list. You would type "list me" in the chat room and whoever started the list would eventually say it was closed then they would email a picture to everyone on the list. The picture would be of something pertaining to the room topic so it could be anything from anal to cumshots to teens to big cocks or whatever the room topic was. We'd get on these lists and get all kinds of pics emailed to us, sometimes for days later. To stop receiving them you'd reply to all and just say "remove me." That was kind of fun because you never knew what you'd get and sometimes you'd get something that wasn't about the room topic. Of course, that ran the risk of getting underage pics or gross stuff like scat or piss. Those were always immediately deleted and the person blocked.

As the internet evolved it became increasingly easy to find porn which, to me, made things much easier. Some may call it thrilling to find and hid porn, but it was kind of exhausting. I much prefer having it readily available anywhere rather than trying to hunt it down.

When I was young in the back of my closet was an access panel for the plumbing in the bathroom - so I would keep my porn behind that panel.

It was very different before the Internet - if a buddy got a hot magazine or better yet a VHS tape as soon as he mentioned it all you wanted to do was see. And you ended up looking / watching it together - so I think there was a lot more jacking with buddies than now where everyone has access to porn.

Where did we find it? It was out there but I lived in a college town - a major source was the fraternities and dorms trash at the end of each semester!
