It truly amazes me when people can honestly put 100% of the blame on one party leader or the other for congressional gridlock.
Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell are pretty much the same shitheads, on opposite sides of the aisle. Neither one willing to work toward any compromise at all.
Political parties should be banned forever. Partisan politics have fucked up congress beyond any recognition of what its original intentions were.

I agree that there's enough blame to go around. That said, it is the right-wing Tea-partiers that have made compromise such a dirty word in recent years. And, the gerrymandering done in 2010 mostly by the GOP has made compromise nearly impossible. We have politician today who won't compromise because they will lose support and won't be reelected in their gerrymandered districts.

Think nationwide commune. Or nationalized businesses. Or total control over banking, transportation, the press. Think Cuba. Venezuela. El Salvador. Those have all worked out pretty well eh Leo. Look it up. Fitting moniker, btw.

"From each according to his ability; to each according to his needs" - Louis Blanc (1851) and later quoted by Marx. Socialism in its pure form is difficult to argue with, particularly, I should think, from a Christian standpoint, e.g. "Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me." - Mark 10:21 or "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." - Matthew 19:24 - there are many other examples, of course. Given, however, the apparent desire for status and its proxy, wealth, both socialism and Christianity have proved difficult to realise in practice (how many self-professed Christians do we know that have striven in any Biblical sense to address inequality? Personally I know of none) This isn't necessarily an argument not to try. If socialism and Christianity are theoretically sound but practically flawed, capitalism, it might be argued, is theoretically flawed. This hasn't stopped us trying to put it into practice and we've tried to mitigate its consequent practical savage, alienating effects by laws which work against its principles but some now argue it's all got rather out of hand (British understatement).

No disrespect to anyone, but I assume I'm wasting my time with this post. Most (all?) people love to hate and they are not about to jeopardize their destructive passion with a little due diligence. So, I will be very brief.....

The federal agencies that make a President's administration are independent agencies that report to Congress but do not answer to Congress (they are above judicial review). These agencies (and the President when acting as Commander and Chief) are under the authority of Administrative Law which is represented by the red, white and blue flag with gold fringe around it. Anyway, the point is that all of U.S. commerce and all of our military are regulated, controlled and owned by the agencies. The President (regardless of party) is fully controlled by the agencies and Congress effectively has no power. I know you don't believe me, so go to the www.federalregister.gov and start reading the laws made everyday by the administrative agencies without the approval or even knowledge by Congress. The federal register is the vehicle used to notify Congress and the public with some of the stuff they are up to. Then grab an Administrative Law book and start reading.

Some of the administrative agencies (again, they do not answer to Congress) are the; NSA, DOD, NASA, Federal Reserve, FTC, FCC, FAA, FDA, SEC, FDIC, HUD, Department of Commerce, etc......). All of your time fighting and arguing over republican vs. democrat is meanings, but you won't stop will you? So frustrating......

Frankly I don't vote on party line, I vote for who I think will do a better job.
This year, with 4 people given to us, non of them have earned my vote and I skipped the primary.
With 320 million plus people in this country, with talent untapped, people who can be leaders, people who can be negotiators, people who have vision, this is the best that we can get??????
I deserve better, YOU deserve better, OUR country deserves better than what is currently given to us.
A friend of mine said "oh just pick the lesser of the evils", I don't want to pick any "evil". That is not how our election system is suppose to work.
Sad to say, I may have to skip voting, none of them earned a vote from me.

I intend to keep politics out of my content here on this site because it's my intention to remain friends with all members.

With that being said I think history points to something very interesting and that's the fact that only once since WWII has the incumbent party succeeded itself after eight years occupancy. Just food for thought there.grin

Interesting history!

The five Democratic terms of FDR and Truman from 1933 to 1953 was the only time in the entire history of the Democratic party and modern two-party politics back to 1828 that the Democrats have held the White House for more than two terms.

Hillary's presidency after she mops the floor with the odious buffoon Trump will be only the second Democratic third term in history.

The Republicans on the other hand have won a third term four times out of seven tries in modern political history, including the one time with George H.W.Bush in 1988. The Republicans have never won a fourth term.

The longest string of terms by the same party was the string of seven terms held by the Democratic-Republican Party in the pre-modern period from 1800 to 1824....starting with Thomas Jefferson in 1800 through John Quincy Adams in 1824.

InfoWars? InfoWars?

Alex Jones? Alex Jones?

When it comes to the Hillary trashing industry, not to mention general political insanity, you might think that Donald Trump is the craziest man on the face of the earth. If you think that, you haven't met Alex Jones.

Surely there is a "false flag" operation (like the Boston bombing) for Alex to tell us all about......complete with black helicopters ordered up by the White House.

American politics has gone crazy. And people who pay attention to Alex Jones deserve what they get.

In a rational world, Alex Jones would be institutionalized and would not be allowed to have sharp objects.

What a great contribution to the discussion! I have seen lots of really ugly and stupid looking pictures of Donald Trump that I could post too.

Unbelievable that the politics of the great republic have degenerated to this. No worse than Donald's "crooked Hillary" rhetoric I guess.

The great American statesmen are turning in their graves. But on the good side, we know that the vulgar narcissistic buffoon running for president will take the Republican party down to an historic electoral disaster.
