Greetings all!

After quite a while of requests for updated chat software and options, JackinChat is preparing to experiment with launching a JackinChat Discord server. This will allow for expanded chat features such as:

- Connected sub-channels for the existing content from #jackinchat and #pornjackin, along with focused chat channels for various subjects.
- Cam and voice chat in Private Messages!
- Stronger and more flexible moderation tools
- Stronger security to access the server, with registration through Discord, and the ability to allow heigtened security options to prevent spammers (up to the ability to include a Discord account validated through a phone number - we will not see your phone number).
- Image sharing displayed directly in the channel, rather than relying on links.
- A "leveling" system to recognize regular users
- Ability to create custom "roles" for users allowing access to various areas of the Discord server.
- And more!

Among the "more!" being considered, for example, is adding the ability to "subscribe" to areas with loosened moderation restrictions to allow for consentual roleplay that some might consider uncomfortable in the main channels. Or, a server voice chat (with cam capability).

Also, in the future, it may be possible to tie registration here on the site to having a Discord account, to reduce the spammer flood that we've undergone for months now. (Yay!)

The server is still undergoing internal testing before being opened to the general public.

Now, here's where you all come in. What sort of things would you be interested in seeing on the server? They may or may not be possible...but we'd like to see what we can do to tailor it to the users' wants.

Once launched, we would like to hear from experienced Discord users who would be willing to serve as "new user guides" for others who aren't as familiar with Discord. One of the biggest stumbling blocks that I've seen with Discord in general is that new users seem overwhelmed, and having guides willing to answer questions who don't have to worry about full moderation duties would go a long way to helping the server succeed.

I'd prefer if we didn't have to go through extensive validation to create an account, like a phone number (for privacy reasons, I don't want to use my phone for this sort of thing). Being able to log in as a guest or change your name would be great too, I don't really like being tied to one name depending on my mood.

I totally get the concern. If we use the highest level of user validation when live (it's what we currently have turned on for testing purposes...we're dialing everything up to 11 during testing to see how it all works), that's entirely tied to your Discord account, and we never, ever see it (and neither does anyone else). It's done when registering for Discord, and the server-level requirement just checks to see that you've verified the Discord account using a phone number when you first join the server.



Discord does not allow for guest logins, but does allow you to change the name displayed in each server you belong to (and those can be changed at any time).

For example, on my "vanilla" account, I use my everyday account name on most servers. On a game server I run, I use another. And, on a roleplaying game server I'm on, I change it to reflect the name of the character in whatever campaign I happen to be playing at the time. All of these reflect independently on each server.

That said, if you enter into PMs and/or add a friend, your name will display with your primary account name. So, for example, if your primary account name is "Bob Jones," but you change it to display as "helmut" in the JackinChat server, and you and I begin a PM conversation, I'll see your name as "Bob Jones."

A role for users to indicate if they want to mic and/or cam with other users.

I'm guessing since #jackinchat and #pornjackin have usually 100 users or more, there won't be an option to mic in their discord equivalents to prevent verbal spamming.

Server disappeared for me this morning as well as chats I had with members... or was that a different one than being discussed in this thread?

That was a server created by a site member, not affiliated with nor endorsed by the site. It appears to have been taken down, and its owner to have disabled his Discord account. From conversation with him, I believe the participation and content was not quite what he expected, and was - instead - pretty much what we currently see on both the boards and in the chat.

Interesting idea. I know there's the ability using one of the bots we're testing to have users self-assign a role by reacting to a post, but since your interest in finding a partner for voice and/or cam may not stay the same from session to session, we'll have to look into whether or not it's possible for those assignments to be temporary. Correct. But, as mentioned, there can be a dedicated voice channel (which would include basically the ability to broadcast video publicly). We're going back and forth on the idea of gating access, just to make it less challenging to moderate.

And, that was easier than I thought it would be. Users will now be able to toggle "Looking for Cam" and "Looking for Voice" roles on and off by reacting to a message in a "roles" channel.

Thanks for making it. It was a good one, doesn't "break" anything, and was easy enough to put in place. That kind of thing is what this thread is about.
